Sarasota’s Spence Atkins Commits to Tennessee Volunteers

October 15, 2015—Sarasota YMCA Sharks all-around swimmer Spence Atkins committed to Tennessee Volunteers earlier today. Atkins, a 2015 USA Swimming Summer Nationals distance swimmer has serious speed in the freestyle and butterfly events, which should be a great asset to the Volunteers.

CollegeSwimming.com now has Spence Atkins Florida’s number 1 and 28th in the country as a top recruit. She is a Riverview High School Senior and is a multi-time finalist at the 4A High School State Meet.

“Spence is a great example of what the Sarasota Sharks do.  She has been in the program her entire career. We are very proud of her and look forward to watching her develop with that great training group at Tennessee,” says Sarasota Sharks head coach Brent Arckey.

Sarasota YMCA, rich in swimming tradition over the years, has developed into a program that doesn’t only produce distance swimmers as people may think, but has also put a 200 Breaststroker (Bethany Leap), two 200 Backstrokers (Austin and Alex Katz) and a couple 800 Freestylers (Nick Caldwell and Danielle Valley) on the National Junior Team the past four years.
