Making a splash at Palmetto High

Starting a swim team from scratch at Palmetto High sounded like a daunting task.

But when Evelyn Magann got wind of it, she saw a wonderful opportunity.

Never mind the fact that the nearest community pool was over the bridge at Bradenton’s G.T. Bray Park or that members of the team would epitomize the definition of the word raw.

Magann loves swimming. And she loved the idea of helping bring the sport to Palmetto, which unveiled a swim team last fall and features a roster of 15 on this year’s model.

“That’s my daily life,” Magann said. “Swimming and diving is my daily life.”

Magann isn’t short on experience. She started a swim program at Bradenton Prep, coached for a year at Manatee High and offers 1-on-1 instruction with the Bradenton Country Club Titans.

If you’re looking to build a swim team from the ground up, Magann seems like a logical choice.
