Arnold High School Swims in Unchartered Waters Competing in 2015 Bolles Bulldog Invite

PANAMA CITY BEACH — For the first time in history, the Panama City Beach-based Arnold High School swim & dive team headed east to compete in the 2015 Bulldog Invite, hosted by the nationally-recognized Bolles School in Jacksonville, Florida.

With 32 teams in attendance from across the state, the meet was extremely competitive, yet the Marlins had a strong showing racking up 25 finals swims.

“With the depth of talent in this year’s team, we felt it was the right time to mix things up a bit and give our swimmers the opportunity to compete against some of the top swimmers in the state,” stated Head Coach Chris Valencia. “We have competed against swimmers in our own backyard countless times, so our team was extremely excited about this challenge… And by the way, they did a fantastic job.”

The boys 200 medley relay of juniors Alex Phlegar, Chad McGuire, Keenan Williams and sophomore Nico Gobel finished 5th overall (1:43.98), while the boys 400 freestyle relay of Gobel, sophomore Cole Tillman, McGuire and Phlegar finished 6th overall (3:27.82). Individual top 10 swims for the boys included a 3rd and 5th place finish for Chad McGuire in the 100 breaststroke (1:01.76) and 200 individual medley (2:02.20) respectively, a 5th place finish for Alex Phlegar in the 100 backstroke (56.38), and a 7th place finish for Nico Gobel in the 500 freestyle (5:01.44). Other top 20 swims included:

~ 200 freestyle – Cole Tillman, 14th (1:56.64)
~ 200 individual medley – Alex Phlegar, 11th (2:04.53)
~ 100 butterfly – Keenan Williams, 12th (56.20)
~ 100 butterfly – Nico Gobel, 13th (56.28)
~ 200 freestyle relay (Tillman, Schoppe, Overman, Williams), 11th (1:36.33)
~ 100 backstroke – James Overman, 19th (1:07.91)
~ 100 breaststroke – Keenan Williams, 11th (1:04.18)

Arnold girls cranked out several notable swims as well with the 200 medley relay of freshman Maddie Campbell, junior Kari Troia, and seniors Hannah Retherford and Kalanne Krause placing 6th overall (1:56.02). Individual top 10 swims included a 3rd place finish for Hannah Retherford in the 100 backstroke (58.97), and a 5th place finish for Maddie Campbell in the 100 backstroke (1:01.02). Other top 20 swims included:

~ 200 individual medley – Kari Troia, 15th (2:20.92)
~ 200 individual medley – Michaela Ashley, 16th (2:21.86)
~ 100 butterfly – Hannah Retherford, 11th (58.87)
~ 100 freestyle – Kalanne Krause, 20th (58.98)
~ 100 backstroke – Kalanne Krause, 15th (1:05.53)
~ 100 backstroke – Molly Grace Bradford, 16th (1:06.47)
~ 100 breaststroke – Kari Troia, 12th (1:12.77)
~ 100 breaststroke – Michaela Ashley, 16th (1:14.99)
~ 400 freestyle relay (Campbell, Troia, Krause, Retherford), 13th (3:55.57)
In diving, junior Hunter McCarter placed 12th overall for the boys, while  senior Carson Bronnenberg placed 13th.
