American Heritage Girls, Boca Raton Boys Win Team Titles At Shark Invite; Kopas Sisters Combine For Four Wins

September 19, 2015—American Heritage Plantation swept the girls relays and Boca Raton dominated the boys diving to capture the team titles at the Shark Invite Saturday at Nova Southeastern University Aquatic Center.

American Heritage won the girls trophy with 568 points. Host University School was runner-up with 550 and Boca Raton was third with 411.

Boca Raton won the boys team title with 463 points followed by American Heritage with 396 and Sagemont with 392.

Catharine Cooper

Catharine Cooper and Audrey Mason of American Heritage were double winners and also members of the 200-yard medley and 400-yard freestyle relays.

Cooper won the 50-yard freestyle in 24.27 and 100-yard freestyle in 53.45.

Mason won the 200-yard freestyle in 2:02.62 and 500-yard freestyle in 5:24.69.

The Patriots won the 200-yard medley relay in a season-best 1:59.94 with Annita Huang, Thea Mckenna, Mason and Cooper; 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:50.97 with Mckenna, Molly Weidner, Jade Grabow and Chloe Grabow; and 400-yard freestyle in 3:48.31, also a season-best, with Huang, Jade Grabow, Mason and Cooper.

The only other individual winners were from University School. Maia Goldstein won the girls 1-meter springboard title with 420.70 points.

Sisters Allison and Amanda Kopas, also of University School, combined to win four events. Allison Kopas won the 200-yard individual medley in 2:13.03 and 100-yard backstroke in 1:02.34. Amanda Kopas won the 100-yard butterfly in a season-best 1:04.30 and 100-yard breaststroke in 1:14.32.

Boca Raton won by nearly 100 points without winning any individual or relay events. The Bobcats were buoyed by its divers who took the top three spots. Alex Hofstetter won with 275.90 followed by teammates Brien Debeer with 269.20 and Nicholas Weber with 254.55 points.

Sagemont’s Fernando Alatorre was a double winner and also led off the winning 200-yard medley relay.

Alatorre won the 200-yard individual medley in 1:55.17, a season-best and first time he broke the 2-minute mark, and 100-yard backstroke in 52.94, also a season-best and county-leading time.

Alatorre was joined by teammates Samuel Quintero, Nick Vale and Juan Imposiamato on the relay that won in a season-best 1:43.05. Quintero also won the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:08.27.

University School teammates Daniel Jacobs and Patrick Groters were also double winners. Jacobs won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:48.05 and 100-yard freestyle in 59.66. Jacobs and

Groters won the 50-yard freestyle in 22.85 and 500-yard freestyle in 4:51.88.

Sebastian Vargas of American Heritage won the 100-yard butterfly in a season-best 54.45. The Patriots also won the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:49.59.
